Between Legacy and Neglect:
Forgotten Monuments
2024-2025, Slovakia
You can stumble upon them everywhere, next to public roads, on fields, on the walls of universities and factories, in the middle of children’s playgrounds, placed without logic. Tall structures, statues, mosaics, but, most importantly, artistic pieces, or as I call them – Monuments.
Created by exceptional artists, architects and sculptors between the 1950s and the 1980s, to honour a moment of completion of a civic project or a proud achievement of the past. Despite their obvious artistic quality and monumentality, today, they are just silent witnesses of the epoque they served. Silent and anonymous, no information preserved, still where they were placed, left alone to their fate after just a few decades since completion.
I present each Monument in 2 images. B&W to present its stunning impression on the viewer with its imposing structure, to appreciate the artwork. The second image in colour shows the Monument as a testament of time, its environment, a sober look at the reality.
